The Nursery

The Laimburg Nursery has always been committed to education, training and research activity. It trains gardeners in conjunction with the Laimburg Professional School on an area of about 2,500 square metres; in addition, specialised gardeners offer consultation services for professionals and hobbyists alike. Since 2008, the nursery has changed its focus: it has to a large extent taken over the growing and rotational planting for The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. Thousands of Icelandic poppies, primroses and violets line the nursery’s flowerbeds: they are cultivated in Merano and destined for South Tyrol’s most popular tourist destination. Highlights for the visitor to the nursery are showcase gardens – such as the potted and water plant collections – and the rose and cottage gardens. In both glass houses – the Tropical Greenhouse and the Succulents Greenhouse – one can see tall cactuses, wide leaf banana trees, coffee bushes and countless other tropical and subtropical plants.
