Virology and Diagnostics

Healthy plants are a prerequisite for successful agriculture. The Laboratory for Microbiology and Virology monitors plant propagation material in fruit growing, viticulture, vegetable cultivation and ornamental plant growing – in strict accordance with health regulations.

• Testing of mother vines and plant propagation material for the presence of viruses, phytoplasmas and virus-like diseases
• Testing of Laimburg vine clones and the entire stock of selected clones of plant propagation material
• The laboratory has been appointed by the Office of Plant Health of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano to perform phytopathological analysis within the framework of official health inspections; the lab confirms diseases under quarantine as well as those that must be fought by law.
• Ongoing tests of stone-fruit stock for plum-pox virus
• Screening of seed potatoes for bacteria that cause quarantine diseases
• Diagnostic examination of plant tissue samples for pathogens and consultation services
