Agricultural Research Office I

Laimburg’s Agricultural Research Offices I and II addresses topics arising from all areas of agricultural production in South Tyrol. Their focus is not only to find solutions to emerging problems, but also to initiate new developments.

Agricultural Research Office I is divided into three departments: Fruit Growing, Viticulture and Enology. The departments are further subdivided into assigned sectors.

The sectors within the Department of Fruit Growing are: Pomology; Plant Physiology; Soil and Irrigation; Storage; Organic Farming. The Department of Viticulture comprises: Testing of Varieties, Clones and Rootstocks; Cultivation and Care; Terroir studies; Technology and Management Practices. The sectors belonging to the Department of Enology are: Varieties and Cultivation Techniques; Enological Methods; Analytical and Microbiological Wine Laboratory; Training and Consulting.

The topics investigated are primarily oriented towards the needs of local farmers and their practical problems, but also towards the continuous evolution of farming practices as required in modern agriculture. The predominantly applied nature of our research is complemented by basic research studies carried out in association with universities and other scientific institutions. Laimburg also offers expert advice in areas that are not already covered by specialised consultancy, and in other situations where particular need arises.
