Isotope Project develops method to proof the origin of local agricultural products
The Laimburg Research Center, Eco-Research and the Free University of Bolzano are working together in a project to develop a new tool which aims to proof the origin of local agricultural products. The research is based on the analysis of the isotopes of the mineral Strontium: The composition of isotopes of this mineral depends on where the plant and hence its fruits have grown. With this method it is possible already today to distinguish apples which have grown in the South Tyrolean Unterland (Laimburg) from apples originating from Val Venosta (Sluderno). The project ¿Analysis of Isotopes¿ (Tecnology Park Enviromental Sciences) is financed by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano: Division for Innovation, Research and University (Decree of the South Tyrol provincial government 1472, 07.10.2013).
