This second edition of the South Tyrolean Soil Symposium deals with the topic of soil mapping. In soil mapping, the soil types occurring in a particular zone are recorded, described and mapped. A soil map can therefore be understood as an overview and inventory of the soils of an area.

The possible applications of a soil map are manifold, such as in agriculture, for environmental issues or in landscape planning.

In contrast to almost all neighbouring regions, South Tyrol does not yet have a comprehensive soil map. At this symposium, therefore, recognised experts from Austria, Italy and Switzerland will speak about the importance of soil mapping and its implementation.
