Laimburg Research Centre
Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Microbiology
The Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Microbiology studies the genetic bases for the selection of new varieties and for the development or rather prevention of plant diseases, such as apple proliferation.
Moreover, the laboratory offers varietal authentication for apple and grape varieties, as well as for rootstocks.
Functional Genomics
The Functional Genomics working group identifies the factors that influence various plant diseases with the aim of developing innovative control strategies.
To do so, it uses molecular biology, biochemistry and bioinformatics.
Breeding Genomics
The Breeding Genomics working group contributes to the selection of apple and grape varieties using new laboratory techniques. Using molecular markers, it identifies plants with a genetic predisposition closest to breeding objectives.
